My Thoughts Back Then

Seeing this at age 13 in 2004 on videotape, I hadn’t played anything like dodgeball or kickball, and wouldn’t until the following year. I came to like this one more over the years, especially as I grew to like that sport more and more, and Nurse Gollum’s speech I understood at the end, but it didn’t stick to me that much. I also hadn’t seen the Chinese stereotypes here prior to watching this as far as I can recall. I could also relate to Pip a little, as I wasn’t that popular in my first year of high school.

My Thoughts Now

Trey’s gone full death metal in the latest song at the retirement home concert – SAY HI TO THE SOUTH PARK FANS! Then there’s the fake slideshow of a holiday in Cambodia I mean China

Chef is a PE teacher, and the boys HATE Dodgeball?! Cartman calls Pip French again, and I loved dodgeball aka kickball in high school, it was amazing! Poor Clyde is out, and Butters is still Swanson here. I love the way Kyle winds up Pip like Cartman would LOL. Kyle gets a broken nose, and needs to see the nurse!

I only went to the nurse a few times at my school, most recently when I was 13. The music used here is something out of a horror movie, same with the camera techniques and Kyle’s shaking. Kyle freaks out seeing Nurse Gollum’s stillborn foetus attached to her head. – NOT A REAL DISEASE OR CONDITION!

Kyle is talking about Nurse Gollum’s condition, which Sheila tries to stop from reading from a book called Freaks (LOL) – didn’t notice THAT! Note how Kenny stays while Stan and Cartman leaves, and laughs once Sheila leaves the room. Stan is paranoid and trying to split his head open, leading to another Sheila crusade and dismissal and disinterest from Gerald.

South Park made the state finals in Dodgeball, which is a bad thing?! Principal Victoria dismisses Sheila… and Mr. Mackey complains about kosher food? Not eating pork for one night isn’t that bad… m’kay?

Off to Denver, and Mrs. Crabtree talks to Chef like he’s a student LOL, the Denver coach also dismissed South Park as a hick town. HAM AT  A JEWISH HOUSE?! Awkward… dinner… party… dead foetus gravy? YUK!  Cartman’s gut saved the day haha. At the dinner party, Nurse Gollum explains that taunting can work as a way of coming to terms with things, especially for 8 year old boys.

And South Park are off to DC! Chef sings a victory song. Back at town, Nurse Gollum has a parade for her, which I’d find humiliating and overexposing. Nurse Gollum explains she should be with the dodgeball team. Donuts can stop buses haha. And, Washington forefeits and South Park are NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! The Chinese are the new team to beat…

Communist China is shown as the brutal regime it is, but with South Park steroids added. Notice the 1600lb training ball! Nurse Gollum is NOT HAPPY with the extra attention, I don’t blame her at all, I’d want the whole thing called off! Chef also distincts between dissing Americans of various ethnicities, and dissing foreigners (not quite, but better than Mr. Garrison still)

The Chinese kids all have buck teeth and narrow eyes, standard Chinese stereotypical stuff which was common until around 20-30 years ago, but remember, we're watching a show where the Canadians are another species almost. The commentator compares Kenny’s death to the assassination of Abe Lincoln! Nice to see the commentators do impersonations of Americans LOL – Chef decides after everyone but Pip is out to go home, but Pip has one move left… which wins the game for South Park! Pip is told to shut up by ALL!

The Cows are back in South Park, and Nurse Gollum has a speech for the town, calling them freaks – she didn’t want to be singled out, and wanted to live a normal life, and makes a great speech, about not needing special treatment or to be protected, to be mocked like most people are. Probably my favourite speech of the series so far, or at least one of them.
