Synopsis
Turns out there's power cuts and a TV show interested in the story of who Cartman's dad is! And poor Kenny get stuck in the snow...
Kenny's Death
Electrocutes himself turning the power
back on.
My Thoughts Back Then
Due
to someone else checking it out from the video shop, I saw this before Part 1,
as frankly, I was happy to watch any South Park episode I could get my 13-year
old hands on. I remember going to the video shop and the lady at the counter
said "You can get 3 more tapes for 15c!", I promptly ran as quickly as my fat
13 year old legs would let me, and grabbed 3 more South Park tapes (the videos
in Australia had 2 episodes each on them). Still adjusting to crude humour back
then, I still enjoyed it.
My Thoughts Now
DO
THE DOG DANCE! Back to the retirement home, where Trey and Matt talk about
their April Fool’s joke (the previous episode), while they play fake messages
they got, and throw the elderly man’s meds! I like these opening sketches a LOT
more at 30 then at 13 or 14. We then get a brief recap, before we get a
slightly revised opening sequence, with some Season 1 references added.
We’re
back at Mephisto’s lab, where Kenny comes back and the power goes out! Dr.
Mephisto is SHOT, and Kenny does Stan’s trademark line when Kenny dies. He’s
not dead thankfully but needs to go to hospital. Gerald feels for Cartman.
Chef makes a
reference to Meredith Baxter Birney (the mum from Family Ties), Chef actually
draws the line and refuses to tell the boys an X-rated escapade – again a lot
of this went over my head at 13. Stan’s queasy, and why is Cartman in the front
seat? Especially as he’s the racist of the four boys. Cartman now sings the
Styx classic Come Sail Away (not exactly a song an 8 year old would know in
1998) at lightning speed, and 35 miles (56km) from the nearest hospital? It was
bad enough when I had to travel less than 10km to hospital in real life when I
was 21…
Sheila
and Sharon have NO clue where their boys are while complaining about their
safety… South Park really is full of morons! Mayor McDaniels actually calls
Barbrady incompetent to his face! America’s Most Wanted want to cover the
shooter story, I loved America’s Most Wanted, until they decided to cancel it.
We also get faux announcements throughout the episode, like “Who will the
shooter go for next?”
Cartman’s
mum wants an abortion… for Cartman? WHAT THE HECK?! You know you can give him
up to someone else you know… Stan is queasy in the hospital, the scene where
they arrive and they’re incompetent reminds me of when I arrived in hospital
when I was 21, bleeding out of my own mouth, and some stupid woman with her 4
year old son with a cold was in the EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT! Ma’am, if you read
this, I hope you learned to NOT abuse emergency departments! And also, my
father bad mouthing the incompetent emergency dental surgeon later that day,
who said I could wait a few days in a hospital bed right before New Year’s…
America’s
Most Wanted is doing casting for their Cartman’s Dad special, and the real Mr.
Garrison auditions for himself! But he’s rejected. And of course, Liane, being
the trampy bimbo she is, is sleeping with her Congressman… Cartman, you DON’T
beat up hospital patients.
Chef
is skinny, and Barbrady is competent, the real Barbrady thinks it’s a movie LOL
– and the power goes out in the hospital, AND at America’s Most Wanted. Who
Framed Roger Rabbit? I saw that film when I was 23, and it was NOT Jimbo.
Hospital is having power trouble, and now Ms. Cartman is sleeping with the
Governor?! He looks a bit like Colorado’s then-Governor Roy Romer, but I don’t
know if he’s meant to be a parody of him. And apparently watching Quincy M.E.
with the late great Jack Klugman, is a good guide to surgery! The boys and Chef
are now amateur doctors, Stan vomits inside him! YUK! That makes feel queasy as
an adult… And who made Jimbo the boss back at the studio?
Of
course Kenny is on his own team to turn on the backup generator… reminds me of
another favourite show of mine, It Ain’t Half Hot Mum, where Lofty always has
to do everything dangerous on his own! And seriously, Mr. Garrison, you can
make it more than 4 hours without eating! As an adult, I pick up more on the
savagery of scenes like this, and eating Eric Roberts?! DISGUSTING! Kenny is
MAD when he’s told there’s a nicer path to the generator too…
STOP
with the cannibalism people! I couldn’t eat anyone, not even those who annoy
me! And Kenny dies turning the power on, but he did it for South Park and for
Cartman’s Dad. Ms. Cartman, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THE PRESIDENT?! All this
time, she got abortion mixed up with adoption! And all because of Cartman not
knowing who his Dad is. Dr. Mephisto’s brother shot him, and Stan, Kyle and
Cartman pay respects to Kenny, but YOU DON’T HIT DEAD PEOPLE WITH SHOVELS!
Mr.
Garrison is just disgusting bringing home dead human flesh. Dr. Mephisto makes
reference to a Terrance and Phillip before he’s announces Cartman’s Dad is….
HIS MUM?! The men are understandably sick when they found out she had male
parts. Cartman finding out his dad’s a hermaphrodite, wants to know who his mum
is, and after one more “Who is?” announcement, Cartman doesn’t care anymore.
